The Story:

The primary objective of the mixed-use development project is to provide the community with a modern grocery store as well as supply much needed affordable housing units.

One of the first major housing developments on Madison’s Southside, the project garnered major attention from the surrounding community.  In addition, the need for a high-quality, community-oriented grocery store in an area that was at risk of becoming a food-desert, meant the neighborhood and community organizations needed to be actively engaged in the process.

The engagement process included collaboration with community members and stakeholders by organizing and facilitating standing Steering Committee meetings, conversations with community leaders and organizations, administering surveys and conducting analysis, facilitation of focus group meetings, and hosting traditional public meetings. The input gathered from community members tangibly informed design and programmatic elements of the highly anticipated development.

FOURTEEN02 In The News

“I have high hopes for this development actually strengthening the community and not contributing to displacement but rather contributing to a sense of community and keeping folks in South Madison.”
